There are many organizations that have taken on the role of wildlife preservation conservation. One of the leaders of the movement is none other than the Defenders of Wildlife. This organization is dedicated to providing protection for all plant and animal life’s in the natural world.
What is the Defenders of Wildlife mission?
The Defenders of Wildlife want to preserve the natural communities where a host of plant and wild animal populations already exist. The main agenda of this agency is to tackle the continued threat to species extinction and the continued loss of natural habitats for these wildlife populations. The organization tries to achieve its mission through advocating protection of entire habitats, and is a main defender of the wolves. The organization believes that protecting the habitats of wolves which travel great distances on a daily basis will provide protection for other wildlife that live in the same habitat.
What species have the Defenders of Wildlife helped?
Wolf: The symbol of the wolf is on the badge of the organization and they have done much to defend the honor of this noble creature. They have successfully reintroduced the wolf population in areas where it had dwindled such as Yellowstone National Park. The Defenders have also helped to introduce legislation that’s eased tensions between wolves and ranchers. The Wolf Compensation Trust reimburses ranchers for the lost of livestock from a wolf attack, they have even introduced legislation that rewards landowners that allow wolves to be born and live on their lands.
Marine Life: Thanks to the hard work of the Defenders of Wildlife Sea animals have also received protection. Dolphins have been protected from ending up in tuna nets, and in large scale driftnets. The Defenders helped create a marine sanctuary that provides protection for the world’s rarest marine animal, the vaquita.
Other Animals: The Defenders of Wildlife have also advocated protecting birds, by encouraging people to consider captive-bred birds instead of wild ones for pets. They have tried to increase peoples understanding of bears and why they are necessary. They have also advocated for the preservation of many other species of wildlife.
How Can You Help The Defenders of Wildlife?
The Defenders are an organization that relies on community involvement and support. There are many ways for you to show your support to this organization. Of course cash donations are always appreciated, but the Defenders have even more options that allow for individuals to donate but also have fun and learn more about wildlife populations.
How do the Defenders make learning about wildlife fun?
Adopt A Pet: One of these ways is allowing individuals can adopt a pet! Animals such as wolfs, bears, dolphins and even penguins are eligible for adoption. Give the gift of an adopted animal for a holiday or birthday. Give an adopted animal to your child instead of buying an expensive house pet! Adopted pets come with a certificate of adoption and a plush animal.
Branding: The Defenders also incorporate clothing and accessories into their mission to allow their mission to gain even more attention. Purchase an item for yourself or a love d one and explain more about the program. A great resource available at the Defenders of Wildlife is its outreach to children. They provide a wealth of information on various forms of wildlife
