Ring-Necked Pheasant

The Common Pheasant is a native of Asia. It is one of the most widely distributed introduced birds in North America. The Common Pheasant, known in the US as the Ring-necked Pheasant or Chinese Pheasant, The species is a popular game bird. It can be found in agricultural lands from southern Canada to California and the New England states south to Virginia.
The ring-Necked Pheasant is 20 to 28 inches long, has a wingspan of about 34 inches, and weights from one to seven pounds. The male Ring-Necked Pheasant has a red eye patch, a brilliant green head , a whit neck, and has a much longer tail than the female. The female has a brown body with a
russet undertone.
Ring-Necked pheasants feed on berries, seeds buds leaves and wild fruits.
Ring-Necked Pheasants give a variety of soft, subtle calls, but some are louder. Males are often heard “crowing” at dawn and dusk. The sound is similar to the crowing of domestic roosters.
