The Ultimate Hunt for a Christmas Tree
Dec 15th, 2007 by Jasper
A tradition I have passed to many young people is the art of hunting the perfect Christmas and capturing it. Now I know this will sound crazy but this all started with my Dad and his creativity at finding a way to make getting the ragged old cedar tree over the hill super special.
My brother and I would be so excited when it was announced that it was time to go and stalk our tree and dad would pull out Great Granddaddy’s old Model Twelve Shotgun and some shells. We would get all bundled up with sock hats and gloves and go out and sneak around the fields looking for the perfect tree. Then once we spotted our quarry we would tip toe up to it and Dad would take careful aim at the base and BOOM! The tree would slowly fall over and we would run and grab it the smell of cedar so clean and fresh. For methis was over 40 years ago and I will never forget those trees or my Dad.
I have been equally lucky to have several kids who have passed through my life and I have given them the gift of the ultimate hunt for a Christmas tree. Some are adults now and every time I see them they bring up the tree hunt. So if you want to create a truly unique Christmas memory, go hunt a tree.
